Environment & Maintenance Recommendations

Real wood remains temperature and humidity sensitive forever. Some seasonal shrinkage, expansion, and movement is always anticipated.

Furniture should be kept in an indoor temperature and humidity controlled environment and away from sources of heat to prevent warping, splitting, and excessive shrinkage. Habitable “room” temperatures around 70° and normal indoor humidity levels between 40-50% are recommended.

Keep clear from all direct or nearby sources of heat including: vents, radiators, space heaters, fireplaces, and stoves.

Close forced hot air vents near or under furniture.

Do not use space heaters on, near, or under furniture.

Do not use dehumidifiers or humidifiers near, on, or under furniture.

Most standard household cleaners are safe for use. Avoid alcohol based or mineral spirit based cleaners. I'm particularly fond of a drop of lemon oil periodically to restore “workshop luster”.

Materials/ Construction Methods/ Expected Variation Policy

Please be aware:
1) All finished surfaces will have rougher portions. Characteristics of the materials, construction methods, and finishing that add charm and make each item unique include: tool marks, brush strokes, knots, grain irregularities, and slight season splits (that do not effect structural integrity).

2) All sizes are approximate. Please anticipate +/-1.5" variation in any direction. Each piece, made without the use of factory grade production machinery, will lack the exact precision found in mass produced items.

3) All colors are representative and displayed electronically. Tone and tint will vary on 100% of items built. Environment and lighting conditions can impact perception of color dramatically. All bases are: stained to match the top, stained a different color choice from our available selections, painted with light brilliant white whitewash over oil based black primer (black wood grain will show through), or painted with solid white or black oil based paint. We cannot offer color matching at this time.

4) Images of past work only represent the approximate product types, and are not exact representations of products that will be delivered. Variations in materials available at time of order, variations in color and size of ordered items, updates in materials, methods, and tools will assure that no pieces are identical.

Workshop/ Showroom Consultations Policy

We do have commercial shop space, but it is not safe or appropriate for in-person consultations.

We do not maintain a showroom, as pieces are built to order and we keep our prices as value oriented as possible. (Internet pricing) In person consultations, and the expenses associated with maintaining inventory and rented space, would substantially drive up our prices.

Our goal is to capture the online catalog/big box furniture store look, done with our methods and style, at the best possible price, while still offering a myriad of customization options.

This system has worked well for nearly 1000 buyers, from Bangor ME down to Washington DC and out to Buffalo NY, but we understand its limitations for some buyers.
